the Brain, the Athlete and the Cuddlebug

this past weekend, i enjoyed a visit from the latest New Orleans Lab Rescue (NOLA) foster puppies and their amazing foster momma (and NOLA VP) Pam. the pups were brought up over a week ago from New Orleans and are now living in the GTA.

their mix is a question…possibly lab and Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog? their exact age is also not known, but we guess them to be around 12 weeks. there is one thing that i know for sure and that’s that they are awesome little pups! they aren’t yappy or nippy, they love people, other dogs and getting used to cats. they have a ton of fun energy to burn and lots of love to give to the right home.

i asked Pam to tell me more about this trio in her own words:

“In mid-July, We (NOLA ) were asked if we could help save some puppies who were living in a building with no air conditioning, no windows and two doors that were shut everyday from 3:30p.m. to 8:30a.m. Because these puppies were so young, they never saw the outside of their kennel (to protect them from parvo exposure). The city’s answer to the problem was going to be to euthanize all the animals. A group of amazing volunteers (Save-An-Angel) worked tirelessly to get as many into foster homes or to rescues. They pulled four lab mix puppies for NOLA Lab Rescue and fostered them while they were vetted and transport was arranged. Daisy, LuLu, Riker and Duke arrived in Canada on August 7th. Daisy has already found her forever family., but Duke, Riker and LuLu are still searching.

While all three are smart, sweet and athletic, they each have their own strengths. LuLu (purple collar) is the brains of the group – it didn’t take her long to figure out that going in the dog door will give her access to the whole house! I have to watch for her because she’ll sneak in and then try to hide under a chair. Riker (black collar) is the athlete – he’ll jump over the x-pen and run upstairs quicker than you can say his name. Duke (green collar) is the cuddlebug – he’s more laid back than his siblings and enjoys snuggling up on your lap.”

ALL THREE PUPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR IMMEDIATE ADOPTION. please contact Pam from NOLA (see details here) if you feel that you can give these pups a loving home.

please help spread the word, by re-posting this post (i will add updates as they find their forever homes).

UPDATE August 19, 2011: Duke (now named Jackson) has found his forever home. Riker and Lulu are still looking.

UPDATE August 26, 2011: Riker has found his family and will be be picked up by them tomorrow! now, it’s Lulu’s turn to find her home…

  6. Hi my name is Kristie Sullens w/Save-An-Angel. I’m the one who found these adorable pups at the shelter. They were stuck in a back corner with no sunlight and no one to love them. It was heart breaking and our team agreed that we had to get them out of there. We called NOLA Lab Rescue and they agreed to take the pups, all we had to do was get them vetted & fostered, before they hitched a ride to Canada. At first I was nervous, we’d never transported dogs out of the country. Plus, they are so precious that it was almost impossible to let go.

NOLA Lab rescue was amazing, and they patiently walked us through each step. All of the dogs did awesome at the vet. They are beyond cute during playtime. Always happy and able to keep themselves entertained. Seeing these INCREDIBLE photographs and knowing how much love they’re receiving warms my heart. These puppies are SO sweet, SO cute & SO lovable – they deserve every bit of good that is coming their way. PLEASE SHARE THESE PUPPIES WITH YOUR FRIENDS!! They will make excellent companions and any pack will be lucky to have them. 🙂 Thank you Marcia for taking the time to photograph and network these dogs. You are truly talented and we’re forever grateful for your kindness. Looking forward to happy updates soon!! xoxoxox

Duke found his forever home tonight! He’ll be joining his family on Sunday and I couldn’t be happier for him. I know they’ll give him all the love he needs. Now I just need two more GREAT families for LuLu and Riker.
