farewell ocho

i just heard the heartbreaking news that one of the beloved dogs of my friend, fellow dog photographer and colleague has passed away.

Ocho, a black and white Basenji….the most debonair and handsome one i have ever met, had a gaze that pierced through your soul.

well over a year ago, Ocho was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and Kelly was given the worst care scenario of 90 days. but Ocho decided that he wasn’t quite finished chasing squirrels just yet. he beat the odds and then some.

sadly, a few days ago, Ocho gave the sign that it was time, and Kelly stayed by his side as he slipped away peacefully, with his dignity intact.

i was incredibly fortunate to first meet Ocho in the summer of 2006 when i photographed him along with Kelly and her other love, Jazz, for Dogs In Canada.

Kelly, my heart is with you and you are in my thoughts. he was a lucky guy to be loved by you…and you him.

I’m so sorry. Rest in peace, Ocho. I’m so glad you got to know true love while on this earth.

These are extraordinary photographs of my friend, Kelly, and her “family”. Ocho and Jazz have been her world and it pains me greatly that my friend has to grieve the loss of this gentle, sweet soul who made her life better in so many ways. Thanks for posting these photographs. They’re a wonderful tribute to Ocho and a beautiful tribute to the many benefits of pet ownership in general.
