experimenting with digital macro

earlier this week i was walking the dogs at one my favorite hidden spots in the city and, like usual, i had my little canon point and shoot camera in my purse. i use it for taking little video clips of the dogs’ hilarious hijinks in the woods.

i took a few videos and then i started noticing the amazing little splashes of brilliant colours around my feet. so i switched my camera to the macro setting (it’s the flower icon on most cameras), knelt down and decided to experiment. now even though the flowers, buds, burrs (and even a few creatues) i came across were no more than an inch or two in size, in the digital macro world they became 10 feet tall. the closer you get the more abstract a subject becomes.

(i hope this also helps dispel the rumour that you can only take a good photograph with a professional camera. remember: it’s not the camera that takes the photo…it’s the photographer!)

so look for the flower icon on your camera and try it out for yourself! all you need is a steady hand (or mini tripod) and the patience to experiment. you’ll discover a whole new teeny tiny world!
